Colored Shade Nets Affect Growth but Not Flowering of Four Greenhouse-grown Potted Ornamental Species

چکیده
The color of horticultural shade nets is known to influence crop growth and quality because variations in the amount light. Four ornamental plant species (celosia, begonia, gerbera, fountain grass) were grown under aluminet, pearl, red plus black as control at 50% intensity for 8 weeks. Black had least transmittance (∼10% 30% ambient) within spectrum (620–750 nm), whereas greatest ∼70% 80%. Aluminet pearl resulted a similar reduction photosynthetic photon flux ∼50% 55% ∼55% 65% ambient, respectively. increased shoot dry weight begonia celosia, no differences among seen gerbera or grass. chlorophyll concentration was aluminet each except begonia. Shade net did not affect flower number.

plants and field-grown aspen trees (Populus tremuloides Michx.) exposed to ambient or twice-ambient ozone. Root dry weight of potted plants decreased up to 45% after 12 weeks of ozone treatment, and root system respiration decreased by 27%. The ozone-induced decrease in root system respiration of potted plants was more closely correlated with decreased root dry weight than with specific root re...
متن کاملShade effects on growth, flowering and fruit of apple
Light is a critical resource needed by plants for growth and reproduction. A major portion of the apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) tree’s canopy is subjected to shade during most daylight hours each day and such shade may affect productivity. The current research determined effects of morning, afternoon, and all-day shading on processes that are significant to orchard productivity. In 1996 ‘Gin...
متن کاملRemnant Trees Affect Species Composition but Not Structure of Tropical Second-Growth Forest
Remnant trees, spared from cutting when tropical forests are cleared for agriculture or grazing, act as nuclei of forest regeneration following field abandonment. Previous studies on remnant trees were primarily conducted in active pasture or old fields abandoned in the previous 2-3 years, and focused on structure and species richness of regenerating forest, but not species composition. Our stu...
متن کاملGrowth and photosynthetic responses of four Virginia Piedmont tree species to shade.
To determine the effects of shade on biomass, carbon allocation patterns and photosynthetic response, seedlings of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.), white pine (Pinus strobus L.), red maple (Acer rubrum L.), and yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.) were grown without shade or in shade treatments providing a 79 or 89% reduction of full sunlight for two growing seasons. The shade treatments r...

The predatory mite Neoseiulus fallacis (Garman) was evaluated as a biological control agent of herbivorous mites on outdoor-grown ornamental landscape plants. To elucidate factors that may affect predator efÞciency, replicated tests were conducted on 30 ornamental plant cultivars that varied in relationship to their generalized morphology (e.g., conifers, shade trees, evergreen shrubs, deciduou...
